Augmented and Virtual Reality Design
This spatial design project was developed as part of a Fundamentals of ER Design class, with a focus on crafting a virtual portrait of a historical figure. Collaborating with Ali Azgarizadeh, the designer selected Francisco de Goya as the subject. Goya, a prominent Spanish royal painter of the 18th century, was renowned for his portraits of the nobility. The showroom draws upon this legacy, interpreting the elegance and formality of his early career through carefully constructed digital environments, providing users with a sense of historical presence and artistic context.
Extensive research revealed a transformative period in Goya’s later years—after falling ill and losing his hearing, he withdrew into solitude and began producing emotionally intense, abstract works. The virtual showroom mirrors this dramatic shift, offering an immersive transition from classical portraiture to darker, experimental pieces. Through spatial storytelling, the project pays tribute to Goya’s evolution, honoring both his courtly acclaim and his avant-garde legacy. The exhibit invites viewers to engage with the painter’s journey in a compelling, modern format.
